Beirut: Lebanese design goes abroad

Nada Debs, Carwan Gallery, marquetry reimagined: against all odds, Beirut makes some of the most refined design in the Middle East.

1 MIN · 6 August 2026

Despite the crises, Beirut remains one of the most inventive centres of creation in the Middle East. Lebanese design — between ancestral craft and contemporary lines — is finding its way into the world's leading galleries.

Nada Debs

The figurehead: marquetry of mother-of-pearl and wood reimagined, pared-back Arab geometries, pieces that hold a conversation between the East and a global minimalism. An instantly recognisable grammar.

Carwan Gallery

The first collectible design gallery in the Arab world: it brought to light a generation of Lebanese and regional designers, and carried that design to Milan, Paris, New York.

The signature

Craftsmanship (marquetry, copper, blown glass), geometric motifs, and a restrained elegance. Lebanese luxury is the learned hand.
