Naples: the city, its workshops, its colours

Coral, majolica, wrought iron, Tyrrhenian light: Naples cultivates a raw, flamboyant art of living that décor is rediscovering.

1 MIN · 13 August 2026

Milan has design, Rome has history — Naples has something rarer: intensity. Saturated colours, baroque craft, the harsh light of the Tyrrhenian coast: décor is rediscovering the Neapolitan art of living, raw and flamboyant.

The colours

Coral (the city's emblem, worked at Torre del Greco), Naples yellow, majolica green, the Pompeian red inherited from the villas nearby. A warm palette, with no timidity.

The workshops

Majolica ceramics (patterned floors and cloisters), coral and cameo, nativity figures, wrought iron, San Leucio silk. A craft unbroken for centuries.

The décor lesson

Naples embraces the mix and a measured excess: pattern on pattern, gilt and patina, sacred and profane. In the age of beige, it is an antidote.
