Gonzalo Bascuñan, Milan: lamps in balance, and columns of carded cotton

A Chilean designer on via Varese. Two limited-edition collections, Equilibrium and Carding Collectibles, from €950 to €6,000, made to order in Italy.

1 MIN · 4 October 2026

A glass globe resting on a steel rod, seemingly held up by a miracle. A column of recycled, carded cotton fading from deep blue to pale blue over two or three metres. Gonzalo Bascuñan designs lamps that are sculptures first, and he makes them in Milan.

Who he is

A Chilean designer based in Milan, he founded his Art & Design studio in 2020 at via Varese 20. He works across product design, installations and public art, and teaches at Poli.Design and the Politecnico di Milano. His pieces come out in limited editions or made to order, produced in Italy.

Equilibrium: glass and steel

The most accessible collection. Sky, a glass globe on a steel rod, comes in five heights, from 140 cm (€950) to 300 cm (€1,500). Terra, weighted with sand, in 120 and 140 cm, €1,150 and €1,250. Tret, a limited edition where thin rods carry the globe, €1,700. And a wall lamp, €1,150. Everything is made to order, shipping €400 from Milan.

Carding Collectibles: carded cotton

The collection you will not see anywhere else. A steel structure and, around it, a column of recycled carded cotton with colour gradients, blue or orange. From 180 cm (€2,850) to 380 cm (€6,000), in 20 cm steps. It is a lamp for a tall room, a staircase, an entrance: at that scale it holds the space on its own.

Why he is in drop 001

Because for the first drop we wanted a piece of light that was neither a re-edition nor a dupe of anything. Studio Gonzalo Bascuñan is one of the six studios opened on 1 October.

Gonzalo Bascuñan's lamps are on Beyit, from €950 to €6,000, made to order in Milan. See the studio and its pieces.
